CASE NO. 7

Ways to Secure Computer Systems from being Compromised

1. Regularly scan your computer system

Regular Scanning of your Computer System is one of the important things to do because it helps a lot in maintaining the security to avoid losing of information stored on your computers or important files and other data.

2. Cleaning Up of your computer system

It is important to get in the habit of running a computer clean up to protect yourself against hackers that can exploit your operating system and view all of your files and where you have been on the Internet.

3. Use UPS to protect your hard disk failure and data loss due to the power failure

Uninterpretible Power Supply (UPS) is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source, typically the fails. It provide instantaneous or near-instantaneous protection from input power interruptions by means of one or more attached batteries and associated electronic circuitry for low power users, and or by means of diesel generators and flywheels for high power users.

4. Install software programs that is compatible to your computer system

Installing software programs that is compatible to your computer system is better to avoid avoid errors in running that particular programs. And it lessen the time in installing it because it easy for the computer system to adapt that said software programs.

5. Verify File Integrity

The integrity of the file is just as important as anything in it -- both to guard against tampering and to ensure that files aren't corrupted during downloads or from being transported on bad media. Such things are rare, but they do happen, and they contribute in their own small way to what might be the only available copy of something becoming unusable.

6. Install proper Tools

Good tools make tieing off the top rail much easier and faster. Its better to use proper tools to avoid the destruction of your computer system because using unappropriate tools it tends breaks the parts of the computers.

7.
Make sure your computer is physically secure

When the computer isn't being used make sure it's switched off to minimize electricity. It also protected from all unauthorized changes that are undetectable to authorized users. In most of the hacking cases, integrity of resources is compromised.

8. Defragmentation

It is a process that reduces the amount of fragmentation in file system. It does this by physically organizing the contents of the disk to store the pieces of each file close together and contiguously It also attempts to create larger regions of free space using compaction to impede the return of fragmentation. Some defragmenters also try to keep smaller files within a single directory together, as they are often accessed in sequence.

9. Know your processes

Knowing what is running on your computer will increase your ability to identify potentially harmful processes. To make things easier, break things down into simple parts. I know it may sound silly, but your first part should be on how to turn on a computer if you know that simple process then you know how to use the computer system.

10. Know your Registry

Residual files, unused or undeleted drivers, and corrupt or bad entries in registry settings will quickly litter even the newest of computers causing a loss of performance and general PC instability. If you keep your registry clean and know what is inside, you will be in a better position to realize immediately when performance has taken a downturn. Therefore it is advisable to invest in a good registry cleaner: one that allows you to scan your registry thoroughly and fix all errors. Moreover, the cleaner must be able to backup your registry.

CASE NO. 5

1. How new technology is rewiring our our brains?

Answer:

“The technology is rewiring our brains” because technology use can benefit the brain in some ways, researchers say. Imaging studies show the brains of Internet users become more efficient at finding information. And players of some video games develop better visual acuity.More broadly, cellphones and computers have transformed life. They let people escape their cubicles and work anywhere. They shrink distances and handle countless mundane tasks, freeing up time for more exciting pursuits. For better or worse, the consumption of media, as varied as e-mail and TV, has exploded. The nonstop interactivity is one of the most significant shifts ever in the human environment.“We are exposing our brains to an environment and asking them to do things we weren’t necessarily evolved to do,” he said. “We know already there are consequences.”

I agree that technology is rewiring our brains because their are lots of people that are so dependent in technology. They sense that they cannot lived without technology. It is good to be rewired our brains but not in that much because intends to expect such thing from the process of evolution or imaginations.

Example:

Remember when publishers used to print books on paper? Actually, they still do. At least for now, anyway. But sometimes it's easy to forget.

“I was reading a book last night, and I wondered whether something I'd just read had been mentioned earlier in the book,” says Dianne Smith, a sales professional in Manchester, Massachusetts. “I wanted to do a search back through the preceding chapters to find the reference. Then I realized I was reading print and would have to flip back page by page. I laughed at myself. But I do love the good old-fashioned pleasure of page turning.”

Sharing electronic text can be a simple matter of pressing a few keys, says Matthew Kammerait, marketing and social media specialist for Quad/Graphics, a $5 billion book and magazine printer in Sussex, Wisconsin. Sharing a physical book? You might have to exchange actual molecules.

“Working on my iphone or laptop, etc., I've become very used to sharing just about everything I find interesting with others to foster dialogue,” says Kammerait. “When I'm reading a printed book, I find myself looking for Share widgets on the page.”

That's okay, Matt. We won't tell your bosses.

CASE NO. 4

1. What is Outsourcing?

Answer:

Outsourcing is usually the term used when a company takes a part of its business and gives that part to another company. In recent times, the terms has been most commonly used for technology related initiatives such as handing over the IT help-desk to a third-party. But it can also refer to non-technical services such as handing over the telephone-based customer service department. It is an arrangement in which one company provides services for another company that could also be or usually have been provided in-house. And also a trend that is becoming more common in information technology and other industries for services that have usually been regarded as intrinsic to managing a business. In some cases, the entire information management of a company is outsourced, including planning and business analysis as well as the installation, management, and servicing of the network and workstations. Can be defined as passing of service provision or production to another internal or external party. is the process of subcontracting to a third party. Outsourcing is a controversial issue because often it means that the companies are outsourcing jobs outside of the country's economy. Outsourcing occurs when a business secures (purchases) products and/or services from a third party, as opposed to producing them in-house.

2. What are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Outsourcing?

Answer:

There are 7 Outsourcing Advantages:

1. Focus On Core Activities
2. Cost And Efficiency Savings
3. Reduced Overhead
4. Operational Control
5. Staffing Flexibility
6. Continuity & Risk Management
7. Develop Internal Staff

And most of all Outsourcing help us to save money, share risk, accommodate peak load and helps us to develop our internal staff. It reduce capital expenditure over a business process. Also management gets more time to concentrate over core competencies. This also reduces the dependency upon internal resources and increases the flexibility to meet the changing business and commercial conditions. The chief reason of outsourcing is to reduce capital expenditure over a business process. Also management gets more time to concentrate over core competencies. This also reduces the dependency upon internal resources and increases the flexibility to meet the changing business and commercial conditions.

There are 6 Outsourcing Disadvantages:

1. Loss of Managerial Control
2. Hidden Costs
3.
Threat to Security and Confidentiality
4. Quality Problems

5.
Tied to the Financial Well-being of Another Company
6.
Bad Publicity and Ill-Will

we tend to loose the managerial control. This happens because it is harder to manage the outsourcing service provider as compare to managing one's own employees. This hidden and missed out costs of outsourcing is hard to predict causing overall costs to be underestimated. It can also prove to be a threat to the security and confidentiality of issues of a company. If your company is outsourcing business process such as payroll, confidential information such as salary will be known to the outsourcing service provider. It also result into the possible loss of flexibility in reacting to changing business conditions, lack of internal and external customer focus and sharing cost savings. Loss of internally generated talent is yet another problem associated with the outsourcing as it may hamper the growth of an employee by depriving him from the experience he would have gained by handling the business issue himself then by passing it over to some other external party.

3. What is the Implication of Outsourcing?

Answer:

Based on my understanding about Outsourcing, it is very important in terms of business. It is also great opportunity especially for the individuals who are lucky to have the job and its more advantageous for the company who is doing this kind of strategy. Let me define outsourcing first. It is getting resources or human resources outside the company or outside the country that the company is based on. The company or firm choose to have outsourcing as one of their strategies because it is very obvious especially for Internet marketing companies and manufacturing companies to work on this kind of tactic because it is cheap. The firm responsible chooses a country where they can find cheap raw materials for the product that they are making. Make sense? For web publishing or Internet marketing, when you are seeking for a human resource that will help you in creating and managing your website, what will you choose? The ones who are far from you but cheap or the ones who are near you but are very expensive. You see, to outsource a human resource, for example a writer, in the Philippines or India costs lesser than to hire a writer which is based in California. And the great thing is that, somehow Asian writers are more proficient in the English language compared to others.

Another benefit of outsourcing is the other way around. We had mentioned above that it is beneficial to companies or firm who are using it. But one of the best impact of this business strategy is the giving of more job opportunities to countries who had a low employment rate. Through this people from around the world who have the right talent for the job that the company is seeking get the chance of having a job for themselves. Also for manufacturing companies, they prefer to make a branch company in the place where they are getting their materials and because of that they have to build buildings and hire workers from that place. That will surely increase the employment rate of that particular country where the said company choose to outsource.

CASE NO. 2

Global Warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near-surface air and oceans. It occurs when the earth heats up (the temperature rises). It happens when greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane) trap heat and light form the sun in the earth's atmosphere, which increases the temperature. This hurts many people, animals, and plants. Many cannot take the change, so they die. It is also affecting many parts of the world. Global warming makes the sea rise, and when the sea rises, the water covers many low land islands.

This is a big problem for many of the plants, animals and people on islands. The water covers the plants and causes some of them to die. When they die, the animals lose a source of food, along with their habitat. Although animals have a better ability to adapt to what happens than plants do, they may die also. When the plants and animals die, people lose two sources of food, plant food and animal food. They may also lose their homes. As a result, they would also have to leave the area or die. This would be called a break in the food chain, or a chain reaction, one thing happening that leads to another and so on.

Causes of Global Warming
:

Many things cause global warming. One thing that causes global warming is electrical pollution. Electricity causes pollution in many ways, some worse than others. In most cases, fossil fuels are burned to create electricity. Fossil fuels are made of dead plants and animals. Some examples of fossil fuels are oil and petroleum. Many pollutants (chemicals that pollute the air, water, and land) are sent into the air when fossil fuels are burned. Some of these chemicals are called greenhouse gasses.

We use these sources of energy much more than the sources that give off less pollution. Petroleum, one of the sources of energy, is used a lot. It is used for transportation, making electricity, and making many other things. Although this source of energy gives off a lot of pollution, it is used for 38% of the United States’ energy.

Effect of Global Warming:

The effects, or impacts, of climate change may be physical, ecological, social or economic. Evidence of observed climate change includes the instrumental temperature record, rising sea level, and decreased snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere. Green house gases stay can stay in the atmosphere for an amount of years ranging from decades to hundreds and thousands of years. No matter what we do, global warming is going to have some effect on Earth. Here are the 5 deadliest effects of global warming. Polar ice caps melting, Economic consequences, Increased probability and intensity of droughts and heat waves, Warmer waters and more hurricanes, and Spread of disease.

The Effect of technology in the Environment:

The effects of technology on the environment are both obvious and subtle. The more obvious effects include the depletion of nonrenewable natural resources (such as petroleum, coal, ores), and the added pollution of air, water, and land. The more subtle effects include debates over long-term effects (global warming, deforestation, natural habitat destruction, coastal wetland loss). Each wave of technology creates a set of waste previously unknown by humans: toxic waste, radioactive waste, and electronic waste.

One of the main problems is the lack of an effective way to remove these pollutants on a large scale expediently. In nature, organisms "recycle" the wastes of other organisms, for example, plants produce oxygen as a by-product of photosynthesis, oxygen-breathing organisms use oxygen to metabolize food, producing carbon dioxide as a by-product, which plants use in a process to

No such mechanism exists for the removal of technological wastes.Humanity at the moment may be compared to a colony of bacteria in a Petri dish with a constant food supply: with no way to remove the wastes of their metabolism, the bacteria eventually poison themselves.

CASE NO. 1

Google is a highly successful internet business. Recently they have broadened their scope with a multitude of new tools.

1. Who are their competitors?

Answer:

Now a days all people are using technologies that's why internet is being invented by a programmer. They created software programs to developed more application like GOOGLE. Google is the most popular "SEARCH ENGINE", the Google face competition in every aspect of their rapidly evolving business, particularly from other companies that seek to connect people with online information and provide them with relevant advertising. Currently in every businesses there are lots of competitors but they consider their primary competitors are Microsoft and Yahoo. And also Google is a friendly user, all information you want to know are all their not like Yahoo, the information they have is always a comment form a researcher they are not reliable in dictionary like Webster or etc.

According to Physorg.com Microsoft and Google have been consistently upgrading online search service features in what has thus-far been a lop-sided duel favoring the Mountain View, California-based Internet king. The competitors have made priorities of improving mobile search offerings and incorporating real-time content from popular online communities such as Twitter, MySpace and Facebook, even though it acknowledged competition from unnamed start-ups and established companies that are enhancing or developing search technologies. Companies are fond of saying that search engine technology is still in its infancy and that consequently an opportunity exists to unseat Google as leader. No one can beats GOOGLE.COM.

2. How have they used information technology to their advantage?

Answer:

Their are lots of advantages in every application but Google used information technology to their advantage because the environment of google is friendly user it easy to access and find what you want to find. And the main goal of Google is to shared information to the users because you just enter what you want to know and click search to find out the result immediately, through that they helps us to gathered information at a period of time.

In our generation, people are so dependent in Technology in gathering information there are lots of people using the Google to find out what they really want to know. Google is a best example of Information Technology because all the information that they being posted are all relevant and reliable. The people become more knowledgeable and aware in the environment or in our society because Google is so updated in terms of Information even if it is News, Education, Sports, Places, Object, and etc.

3. How competitive are they in the market?

Answer:

Google now a days is so rampant in terms of their market because google is the most popular search engine among the rest. They are lots of business Market that are willing to invest in google because their are lots of people who is always visiting the google. In that way it easy to be productive While their results aren’t optimal, they are good enough. Just like Microsoft Windows was good enough to dominate the market.

Google, according to Hitwise, now has 64 percent of the total search market. And although a typical Google query can often be an act of futility, we put up with it because the results are fast. If they’re wrong, we can just start all over again. The faster the results show up on our browsers, the less inclined we’ll be to switch to a rival search engine, no matter how great the rival’s search methodology may be. The faster (and more efficient) its infrastructure, the more easily Google can keep serving the ad-based money machine.

4. What new services do they offer?

Answer:

The new services of Google that they offer are the following, complete online purchases more quickly and securely, A browser built for speed Meet new people and stay in touch with friends, Get email updates on the topics of your choice, Find blogs on your favorite topics, A browser built for speed, stability and security, Search the web, organized by topic or category, Search for images on the web, Search thousands of news stories, Search scholarly papers, Search billions of web pages, Developer tools, APIs and resources, Create and share your online documents, presentations, and spreadsheets, Create mailing lists and discussion groups, View web pages in other languages, and get Google products on your mobile phone. Through that new services that they being offer thier are more productive and well known.

5. What makes them so unique?

Answer:

Obviously it makes them so unique because it is easy to emulate Google, everyone would have done it or would be doing it by now. The more I think about Google, the more and more I think it is going to be impossible to emulate them. Certainly you can steal some of their ideas and what they’ve pioneered and put it to use in your company, but outright copying Google is going to be near impossible.

One thing that has become evident to me is that Google grows in an organic fashion, unlike any other company I know of. Google develops tools that are internally useful and then releases them to the world. Google does not develop products to sell to the world. Google does not have external contracts, at least in the traditional sense, as far as I can tell.

Google doesn’t answer to any external power. They don’t have anyone they have to deliver a product to. There is no contract with a deadline. Due to not having any external dependencies, Google can continuously iterate over a product until it reaches a state of near perfection. It can stay in internal testing as long as Google wants and no one is going to care. See Gmail, Google Maps, etc. This then allows Google to use the perfect form of the agile process. Continuous iterations and testing and development, continues improvement. Then as Google sees fit, release the products. As they get better and better, more people use them and more money from ads come in. It’s beautiful.

6. How competitive are they in the international market?

Answer:

Actually going global is a means of survival. It manufactures, conducts research, raises capital, and buys supplies wherever it can do the job best. It keeps in touch with technology andmarket trends around the world. National boundaries and regulations tend to be irrelevant, or a merehindrance. A company headquarters might be anywhere. Google is competitive in the international market because Google is a well known search engine not even in Philippines but in World Wide Web. Through that they are so popular in terms of their application, the software program that they being used is easy to access and manipulate or gathered information.

Google Inc has recently celebrated his ten-year birthday(September the 7th 2008). What a great opportunity to study how a simple research project became one of the world biggest growing company in all time! I – 1 Google nowadays Google is the most used search engine engine in the world with more than 60% of the world requests made on search engines. Google is also a company providing a large range of services(exactly 149), his more recent ones(the web browser: Chrome) make it now compete with firms such as Microsoft. Some example of Google services: mails, blogs, videos hosting, companies ads, maps, pictures hosting, websites analytics During the last 4 semesters Google generated nearly 20 billions dollars of revenue with a net profit of 4,85 billions.

Year 1999: first non engineer employee hired. Year 2000: Google provides an interface in several languages: French, German, Italian, Swedish, Finnish, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Year 2001: Google is now available in 26 languages and open his first international office, in Tokyo. A partnership with Universo Online (UOL)(the largest online service and Internet provider in Latin America) makes Google the major search service for millions of Latin Americans Google first international office is sat up in Tokyo in 2001.

Year 2002: Google is available in 72 languages, partnership with AOL and first office in Australia in Sidney. Year 2003: several national acquisitions to extend Google services which at the end extend as well the world services abroad of Google, for example the blog services “Blogger”. Dublin became the first location for Google's regional operations outside the U.S.

Year 2004: more than 100 Google domain names are available. Google opens new engineering offices in Bangalore and Hyderabad in India. R&D center opened in Tokyo.

Year 2005: the famous Google Maps application is release for Europe. New R&D center opens this time in China. First offices in Mexico and Argentina.

Year 2006: several other acquisitions to extend their services with for each of them translation in several languages.

Year 2007: Partnership with China Mobile, the world's largest mobile Telecommunication carrier, to provide mobile and Internet search services in China. Sign partnerships to give free access to Google Apps for Education to 70,000 university students in Kenya and Rwanda.

Year 2008: Series of acquisitions and translations of other Google services. As we just saw in ten years Google developed a lot of International marketing structures from simple representation offices to R&D centers to complex partnerships. I did not mentioned it but Google acquired several companies(more than 50).
